I've tried some of these things before. Like blogging, I mean. When I first logged on to this website I unearthed two blogs that I wish that I hadn't. My writing back in the day was so unprofessional and just bad, that I didn't want to sift through all of the unfinished posts that I never got around to publishing. I have this thing where I'm bad at keeping on track with my projects. Lately things have been crazy. I don't know if I ever want to write an entire novel, but I read all the time. Like I'll read 75-100 books a year if I can force myself too. Being in school makes it a bit more difficult, as you can imagine. But I want to help people find books they'll love so I'm rebooting my Blogger and making it a book blog.
I guess we can start by listing some things that I like, and the types of books I read the most.
I don't just read. I am an avid fan of all things nerdy. Some of the other things I love are Pokemon, Marvel, and just all movies in general. I grew up with comics so I read graphic novels just as often as I read "regular" novels. Recently I finished reading the Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix, and let me tell you, that series was so good. I'm planning on doing a review for that after I finish up reading The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli, which is so good. I will probably end up finishing that and getting a review up of it by the end of the week. I'm also planning on reviewing Abhorsen, so don't worry.
Most of the books I read, I read for escapism. I hardly ever read contemporary novels, unless they grip me from the first page. Becky Albertalli is one of those authors who might be making me fall in love with contemporary again. But, like I said, I generally tend to read for escapism, so I have always been drawn towards science fiction and fantasy books. Sometimes I'll read historical fiction if it's done properly, but I'm picky when it comes to historical fiction novels. I'm picky when it comes to most books, actually. Recently I realized I'm a really harsh reviewer, and it's hard for me to rate a book five stars. I think I've maybe had one five star book in the last couple of months, which is disappointing. I've been reading more again and that makes me happy. I can't wait to just sit at home and read as much as possible, and share what I'm reading. Some of my most important memories are from when I recommend people a book and it ends up being one of their favorites, if not their favorite.
These are just a few things about me. I hope that I get to know more people through doing this and that I can actually make myself committed. I hope you stick around! Just maybe you'll find your favorite book.
Thanks Georgia! I cannot wait to read your blogs and book reviews - I have never followed a blog before, but this is a great time to start! After I defended last summer, I finally had time to read again. I had spent the three years before lost in textbooks and scientific journal articles, which can be pretty dry. I had forgotten how wonderful it was to get lost in a book! On vacation last summer, I was introduced to Michael Crichton, via PREY. It was really the first "REAL" Sci-fi book I had read. I could not put it down, I read the entire thing in a day, through the airports, on the planes, through meals, and I could not sleep until I got to a stopping point (which was a few chapters from the end)!!
ReplyDeleteMost recently I finished the girl with the dragon tattoo series, quite a few years late, and the girl on the train. I tend to be drawn towards mystery novels – one of my favorite authors is Harlen Coben, I don’t know what it is but I just really love his characters and the twists and turns of the story. However, I am really excited to start reading sci-fi and fantasy – my nephew suggested the Percy Jackson series so that is next on my list.
Keep it up! I am looking forward to making a summer book list
Ahh, thanks for the comment Sami! I adore the Percy Jackson series, and really anything Rick Riordan writes. If you want an easy in to fantasy, I do recommend the Abhorsen trilogy. It was so much fun and I finished the whole thing in a couple of days. The characters are great and it's easy to read. I also really recommend Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas! It's a longer series-six books-but I think you'd love it, especially since you love Harry Potter! It has that same kind of really large fantasy world feeling, and I think you'd love the main character Caelaena. Thanks again for the comment!!
